Awake to the Blessing
Please pick up a copy of a leaflet we are producing each week for Advent called Awake to the Blessing. A short bible passage, a reflection and an activity for each day of Advent.
Advent Calendar
If you have access to the internet you will love the Bishop of Kensington?s thought-provoking on-line Advent Calendar. Why not put it in your favourites for a daily click: http://www.bok.paperlesschristmas.org
Christingle next Sunday!
All children and the young at heart are invited to our Christingle Service at 1700hrs next Sunday, 9 December. A collection during the Service will go towards supporting the Children?s Society, working with children whose childhoods have been stolen; children forced to run away from home or care who may find themselves sleeping on the streets this winter; young refugees fleeing conflict and war; those caught in a cycle of crime and detention; or children marginalised through disability. If you can?t come along next Sunday, why not go to the Christingle Service at St John the Baptist Cookham Dean at 1700hrs this afternoon? Why not go to both?
Gifts that keep on giving
Precious gifts for the Cookham-Kedida Project, providing vital, sustainable water supplies to 60,000 people in the Kedida region of Ethiopia? Make your gift in the name of a friend or family member, and we will give you a special gift card to send, letting them know what you have done.
?A Loo for Ten?
Sanitation is an essential component of the Project. We?re aiming for one pit latrine for every ten families. Just ?10 will pay for the materials for one of these. Digging and construction will be done by the families themselves.
?Planting the Future?
Tree planting will also play a vital part in the Project, securing eroded land and creating a healthier natural environment. A gift of ?10 will purchase 200 saplings ready for planting.
Pick up gift application forms from the back of church, the Stationery Depot, or call the Parish Office, 01628 529661.
That Cookham Sound
The choir’s new CD of sacred anthems and secular songs celebrates forty years of music-making at Holy Trinity Church. Price: ?10, in church after Services or from the Parish Office, Village Hardware and Cookham Dean Post Office Stores. Profits are being donated to The Children’s Society.
The big card
Instead of sending Christmas cards to all your church friends, you could sign the communal card at the back of the church during Advent and give the money you save to the Cookham-Kedida project!
Thanksgiving for the Gift of Music
At 1830hrs next Sunday. A service offering an opportunity to hear the musical talents of some of our Cookham youngsters. Retiring collection in aid of The Children’s Society. If anyone would like to take part who is not already doing so, please see Sara or Vicky today.
Thinking about Lent 2008
Have you signed up for a copy of our Book for Lent yet? David Winter?s Journey to Jerusalem has a Bible passage with a thought-provoking comment for each day plus material for groups to explore together at a weekly housegroup meeting. Books are ?7.99. Add your name to the list at the back of church and we will make sure the books are here before Christmas. We will organise the housegroups early in January.
Bishop John in the Deanery
The Bishop of Oxford will be spending the day in our Deanery tomorrow 3 December. During the day he will be visiting the Chartered Institute of Marketing here in Cookham and getting to know more about life in this part of the Diocese. As ever, Bishop John is in our prayers.
Sharing the housework
Our beautiful church is cleaned fortnightly, usually on Saturday morning, with teams of three people spending up to 2 hours cleaning and tidying. Please add your name to my list of volunteers; see me in church after the 0930hrs Eucharist or in the Parish Centre, or call the Parish Office in the week. Do come and join us. Your commitment will be 2 or 3 Saturdays a year, so a total of just 6 hours. I look forward to hearing from you. Audrey Draper c/o the Parish Office 529661
Arts Caf?, Maidenhead
You are warmly invited to the next Arts Caf? in the Wesley Hall of Maidenhead High Street Methodist Church from 1930hrs this Friday 7 December. Special guest singer songwriter Esther O’Connor. Tickets ?5 from St Andrew’s Bookshop.
CookhamVoice
Our new CookhamVoice newsletter is here, bundled by street name and ready to go out to every home in the parish. Now we need your help! CookhamVoice is one important way in which we can communicate with everyone in our community ? please help us in this ministry by taking responsibility for delivering to a street or two, or three! Thank you everybody!
Posada in Cookham
The Posada journey of our figures of Mary and Joseph has begun. They will travel from home to home in our parish arriving in church on Christmas Eve in time for the arrival of the Christchild. This ?Posada? symbolises making room for Jesus in our hearts, homes and communities, and so it is very much part of our Advent time of getting ready for what is to come.
High Street Carols
Next Saturday 8 December, meeting at 1045hrs for 1100hrs outside the Bear Hotel, Maidenhead. You are invited to support this outreach event in the town organised by Churches Together in Maidenhead, and share the real meaning of Christmas. The Salvation Army Band will accompany. Finish at approximately midday with coffee and mince pies at High Street Methodist Church. Details from Christine Berry 627161, or simply turn up!
Climate Change: God?s world & our response
Not to be missed! An evening chaired by the Bishop of Reading, the Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, at St Michael?s Church Warfield, near Bracknell on Tuesday 11 December from 1930hrs. Parking will be available at the church. Call 01344 886900.
Workshop for children
Make sure you have registered for all the fun at the Christmas Workshop in the Parish Centre on Saturday 8 December 1000hrs to 1200hrs!
